Ok, Started out it was going to be a beautiful day here in Maryland so I got up early so I can get out of work early to go detecting, stopped by 7-11 for my morning coffee, and in my change a 1942 Weatie !!! off to a good start all before 6:30am. Got to work and did my time just waiting to get out. Got to a spot I went last week where I picked up some clad and one silver ring. This place is down near a stream where there is a bridge now and used to be a store according to an 1862 map. Walked down to the water next to the bridge and picked up a few modern coins on the fist few hits. I continued on hitting what sounded like pull tabs, should I dig, nah it’s just another pull tap, could be a ring, a diamond ring, nah its gonna be another pull tab, well after I pulled the plug, there it was, just another pull tab. This scenario repeated itself over a dozen times during my 3 hours before it got dark and yep, they were all pull tabs. I found the foundation of what I guess was the old store. There was a lot of iron around including a 1940ish car so I detected between the iron and trash and got one good hit, it didn’t even sound like a pull tab! When I unearthed it, it looked like an old packet watch but fatter. I just put that in my pocket and moved on. I got a ton of foil sounds, which I passed by only digging on the high pitch sounds. Most ended with a penny or a dime, some nickels and quarters. Oh yeah and all those *#*&^%*& pull tabs because they sound so good to me, anyway. Then I started thinking about you guys showing off your gold chains and wondering why I haven’t come close to any thing like that. Humm, I wonder what a gold chain sounds like? Wait! Here is one on my neck. Let’s see what that sounds like then I can pay attention to a noise that sounds like that…. So I took it off, put it on the ground and scanned it.. WELL IT SOUNDS LIKE FOIL!!!!. Crud !. All of those foil sounds I’ve already passed my because “I’ve learned what foil sounds like” and my gold chain sounds just like foil…..so that gets me thinking, ,,,, nah my mom gave me this and it even says 14k right on the chain…. OK, Lets re-evaluate. All those foil sounds may have been a gold chains. This place is big enough to get a mean game of Frisbee or even a football game or two. You know, ruff housing loosing stuff and breaking stuff. So no I think the next time I get that “sound” I’m diggin’. Now another coin, pull tab, pull tab, coin, and then “that” sound… I’M DIGGIN’. And there it was, a nice chunk of FOIL!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH….This is supposed to be relaxing? Well I moved on and got another good hit.. Now this is something I always wanted a 1960ish Vette…. Yahoo…… Well when I got home it wasn’t a Vette. It was a TBird. I got $3.16 in clad, 5 quarters, 16 dimes, 2 nickels and 21 pennies, and that old watch looking thing. Oh I can’t forget the 5,236,942 Pull tabs. I got one side of the watch thingie open, well it’s not a watch, it has glass on the open side. I put in a pic. Maybe an old snuff container? Looks like it has some white powdery substance inside. Humm… early 1900’s Coke… Don’t know.. I’ll follow up once I get it open.. So to re-cap… It was a beautiful day to be outside, and I’ll be back diggin’ pull tabs as soon as I get a chance.
