I went back to a site that earlier in February produced a 1787 NJ copper, 1771 KGIII counterfeit Halfpenny, Tombac button and a complete frame of a shoe buckle. So with the site appearing to date late 1700s today when I found only ONE item, I think it just might date to the same time frame.
After hunting for about hour and half with nothing to show at the small homested, I started hunting the sandy road in front of it. Right away I got a clad dime and then a clad Quarter.
But as I started walking an overgrown section of the road past the intersection where the main road turned, I got a decent signal. 8)
View from where I dug the Seal
I dug a nice big plug and there sitting was a blob that by the shape looked familiar.

I picked it up and now I was fairly certain it was a "wax" seal as I called them.

After turning it over and seeing the Amber colored "stone/glass" that sealed the ID for me.

I quit hunting after that, and did some more exploring about half mile away for gaining access to another site I have lined up if I can get to it.
Cleaning the seal took a bit,I first picked with a toothpick and then decided since I saw some gilt to get out the lemon juice, and to my surprise more gilt showed than I had expected.

This was my second fob seal I have found, the other one is missing the stone but has two dolphins on it.

So only one old find today, but I will take a hunt like that anyday! The clad quarter and dime sure don't count!
