Late Archaic Pottery

Hey y’all, just wanted to share some late archaic pottery I had laying around. Here in Georgia it is referred to stallings island pottery and typically first associated with a site in the Savannah River. The pottery itself ranges throughout parts of Georgia and along the southeast coast up into the Carolinas. Some argue a different date for coastal variants and for them to be older than inland examples.In Florida there is a similar type referred to as the orange series and is associated with the tick island site. Stallings is to be believed to be some of the oldest pottery in North America and is fiber tempered with Spanish moss and includes punctuated, incised, and plain designs. There is some debate pottery was made in response to the difficulty in obtaining soapstone for vessels and to lessen reliance on groups who controlled soapstone deposits. Thanks for reading
