I have used way too many detectors over the years and until recently, I thought a properly tuned CZ or Etrac was the best nickel detector. Today, I dug 10 nickels with the Legend, including a sharp Buffalo nickel from 8 inches deep. Here is what I have found in my ground. A shallow nickel is a solid 25. No bounce to 26 or 24. The deeper nickels are a 24-25. Again, no 26 or 23. 23 numbers are most always a beaver tail and 26 -27 are pull tabs and slaw. I have never had a detector so sensitive to nickels. This detector is turning me into a believer.

I feel the same way with the Equinox. I've never dug so many nickels.

As I said, I have had way too many detectors and forgot about the Nox. As I rember, 12-13 were nickels and yes I found many with the Nox. The nice thing about the Legend is a larger number spread. Two numbers off with the Legend is junk. Does the new 900 have a larger number spread?

Yes, it goes up to 99 now on the 900. I find it a bit easier to I.D. nickels with the 900 over the 800. Both are excellent though.

You sure a 23 and a 26 isn't a gold ring?
No way to tell unless you dig it. At the beach, it's a simple scoop to tell. In a park where you have to dig, not so easy and there will be tons of those signals.

You are correct, those numbers could be rings. The places I hunt are swamped with 22-26 numbers and being an old man with bad knees, I could not even begin to dig those signals. When I was younger, I would try and even at that, I would wear out after 30 plug digs. I do wish I could zero in on gold like the Legend can zero in on nickels. I usually find a couple of gold rings per year and when I do find one, I am digging a nickel signal.

To find those nickels are you folks using stock park programs? M1, M2, M3? 6 tone or 60?
