Lock latch

I feel this is a latch of some sorts. It’s decorative and it’s not iron. It’s shiny in spots and has green patina in small places

Nice backing plate for a door handle-not sure how the bolt/slide worked though.
Wonder if there was a thumb latch release on the inside?

Pretty sure that is for a door with a push bar. Like they used to have in schools.

Hmmm, so there was two? One on each side of the door. I guess the lock went on the inside of the door through round latch hole
I cancel what I thought I hadn't enlarged the photo, I thought the rectangular spot was a hole through the piece.
