I believe I got lucky enough to find most of the buttons off of one uniform at an old field homesite. No other homes around and going off the maps, the only one ever there. I've tried to look up the backmarks to get the timeframe but I'm thinking their early.

yes nine is correct, and looking at the SAME patina on ALL the buttons, I would say "yes" they are from the same coat (blouse).

I think you are looking at this coat.

there may be more of it to find, cuff buttons, and perhaps emblems too.
SWEET!!!!! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear and see!!! Thank you so much!! Keep an eye out for even a better one soon.

Let me start by saying that this group of buttons is a FANTASTIC find. I would have to dig out some books to look at uniforms, but off hand I would say that you probably found a discarded coat. The Rifleman eagle buttons are pre-
Civil War, and are much rarer than the rest of the branch specific buttons. The raised mark depressed channel backmarks determine their age, as well as the "R" designation which was discontinued before the Civil War began. If you found them in the same area, without any associated period military finds, then it must be a coat. I have got so many books, that I'm not sure when I will find the one we need to learn more about your finds, but the next time I see it I will pull it out and share any information I find with you.

That's so awesome to hear!! And to think these were found here in Indiana, far from any type of battles or anything like that makes it even better. You just never know what the next beep will be. Thank you so much for all the help and I'm happy I was right about thinking they were special!!!

I want to add that all of them weren't found at the same time. Two hunting seasons, they did beans two years in a row which isn't the case most of the time.
