Weird question. Started coin roll hunting since it's been snowing off and on in Denver for the last few weeks. Went to the bank to cash in all the halves, and one stuck to the side of the coinstar counter. It's a 1972-D Kennedy, and as far as I can tell, it isn't counterfeit. Makes a dull sound when dropped on wood, almost like a heavy poker chip. The sides show the usual silvery-clad appearance, and like I mentioned, a magnet will cling to it. Curious if anyone has seen this before. Thanks in advance,

That's what I thought at first, but it seems to be a regular, albeit magnetic Kennedy half.

Re: Magnetic half????????????

Actually, what I meant was that a magnet will stick to the half dollar, not that it was magnetic itself. Sorry about the error. Long day. Also, I can see no seams along the side of the coin where someone might have attempted to alter.

Re: Magnetic half????????????

Went to the coin roll hunting site, and saw that someone had found a similar coin. Took the advice of CLZinTX, now know what I found. Here's a couple of scans. Man. do I love this site! NEVER would have figured out what I had, or at least how to separate the two pieces.

Wow what a sweet find. I guess the metal disk was inside so it could stick to a secretly hidden magnet to "disapper" during a magic trick! sneaky SOBs
