Manticore Finds!

I went to a local park with my new machine (Minelab Manticore) for a three-hour hunt. I was very surprised to see the worn seated liberty dime - rang up like a zinc cent. There was a half inch piece of a square nail in the hole also. The dime was only down about 4". The Indian head was similar, I had walked a long way and finally said to myself, let's see what this is. Dug it at about 8" in the top of the hole. The bottom of the hole had a one-inch chunk of a square nail. Both targets rang up pretty solid in two directions (90 deg. turn). The wheatback was down about 6" and was exactly what it ID'ed as. I also dug four shallow clad quarters, three clad dimes and a few zinc pennies. They all ID'ed perfectly.

Had a few super deep targets that sounded and pinpointed good, but I could not find the target after digging down a foot - probably iron false signals... I hate giving up on such signals, but didn't want to tear up the park more than I had.

It was a fun hunt with better than expected finds, for a hunted out park. I should be deadly when I learn what the machine is telling me, haha.

I found a couple more goodies with the Manticore! I was happy to see the 1852 large cent show up. It was down about 10" and gave a nice signal. Someone did some creative carving on the reverse - this is the second time I found one like this. The Indian Head Cent rang up in the mid 60's which is lower than usual - still learning... The bottom thing is a broken cuff link.

The large cent was a solid 92 - the IH rang up 65-ish.

My oldest is also an 1852 large cent found old long gone farm in Warren County Ga. Took some cleaning has unusual off center on the back.

Well, I'm liking the Manticore more and more. I've been running it in all metal (horseshoe on) with the ferrous volume turned down some. I think running it this way cuts down on the iron falsing or I spend less time making an iron false sound better since I can hear the iron (or both). Those are some pretty great finds for a public park! what state are you in? I also really like your photos, do you use some kind of special setup to create that black background with good lighting?

Thanks Hbot37. I'm in SW Michigan. I scan in my finds. I'm a retired graphic designer. I scan them in with the lid up (in a cabinet), that makes the background black. I use to just throw a black piece of cardboard over them, but I lost the cardboard somewhere. I do hand adjust the scans in Photoshop and add a touch of sharpening. Thanks again!

Went to an old 1800's fairgrounds heavily hunted site. Had the whole woods to myself. Three IH's is a great day at this spot. I even found the first fatty IH I've pulled from this site - 1863! The well worn one is an 1868 which is a low mint year. Had fun and the Manticore purred along.
