match holder,snuff box?

Found this on an old Hudson Bay trading post on an island in Northern Quebec, along with alot of other old things.. No idea of what it was used for?

It is hinged and it opens,,was not rusty when found, so it is either a silver or pewter or something resistant to weathering, just bent. Maybe it carried snuff.

If it opens then it may have had a pray in it?

Awful hard to tell from the picture. Looks like it may have some kind of monogram on it? What does it seem to be made of? Backside view? (not yours, the object)! Is it hinged or does it seem to fold to open or? Need more info. Monty
