Found this militia plate in a field in Eastern Iowa was told it was a "circa 1850 militia panel plate" but I'd like to hear what everyone else has to say. Also dug a few other interesting things in same field. Many thanks in advance.
Dirt Reaper,

Welcome to TNet from Dayton, Ohio. While I can’t confirm what type of plate you found I can confirm it looks amazing. Definitely a great find, congratulation. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'll be posting more finds. I've been detecting for a solid 5 years now and have quite the collection of finds.

It is indeed an 1850s militia belt plate. Great find! I dug one up a couple years ago in Kansas. Yours is missing the bar and pin on the back that would have attached it to the belt. I sent pics of mine to a collector/appraiser and was told 1840-1850 pre-civil war worth approx $200-$300 in current condition. I’m not selling it though!!!
