I approached a gentlemen detecting an old area yesterday as we quickly got along and spoke for awhile.I let him borrow my atpro as I swung my deus since he had an ace.Hes been hitting this spot for couple years with civil war belt plates,buttons,3 cent silvers and many 1700s coppers etc. This place looks very promising and I encouraged him to upgrade his weapon. He showed me some of his recent finds and I was watering out of my mouth lol.I swung for awhile with some buttons to show for but I was more active that day on teaching him my deus also.At the end of the day,we both had to leave and he was kind enough to give me a pba cop sticker and an Irish police hat.He also shows me where he had found some spoons and offered to give me his set of 5 and I said no thank you.He insisted again and I finally took them and said thank you.Fast foward today I took my kids with me and I hit it good and also found the same spoons and many more,I believe his detector didn't get the rest of the spoons as they were deep. The first picture are myspoon finds, the second pictures are his spoons he gave me .My 1st 1859 indian and The wheat penny is made of steel and I have no idea what the copper coin is but maybe a king george?and the last object with an 8,I'm clueless. The watch is old and the white oval thing has an water fowl design on it.Thanks for watching.

Absolutely amazing ! The Silver spoons are fantastic ! I'd be elated if I found one - Crazy to find that many . Your copper is a Draped
Bust - U.S Large Cent ( 1796 - 1807) or the Half Cent denomination (1800- 1808) The One cent should have a diameter of 29mm.
the Half should measure 23.5mm Excellent Finds !

Congrats on making a new friend (the real treasure). Looks like you pulled many keepers from your hunts. In Where's the steel wheat? Those spoons are unique as is that pin and the token. Do the kids just hang out, or do they participate?

cool story and nice finds, thanks for sharing:thumbsup:

those spoons sterling?

wish I could find some, I just had to go to a pawn shop and buy a couple sterling spoons, as I am making spoon rings for a couple family members this Christmas. Thankfully, since I was paying scrap price plus a bit extra, he was willing to cut the spoon ends off, just saving me the shafts to make the rings.

2 spoon shafts=26.7 grams sterling=$25 bucks.

he said sterling scrap was about $15 an oz right now, so he taxed me pretty good. but he was the first place I had found that would sell me a la carte silver spoons. most people either have a whole set for big bucks or nothing at all. single spoons get melted pretty quick. this guy was just holding onto waiting for the price to rise.

kinda getting off topic here.......but nice finds! bet that spot yields you some more goodies.:laughing7:

what is your main "go to" detector, the Deus or the AT?

Steel penny

What is the pin with the Liberty Bell on it ? The variety and quality of your finds are outstanding ! For that gentleman to just
give you 5 sterling spoons is a rare day - plus finding the Draped Bust copper , and the Indian Heads , and the 1920's 30's
ladies watch - truly a wonderful hunt !!!
