Is there a blind pig bill or a cowbell seriously though second one found here at moonshiners dump wondering if it's a useful tool for them or if it is simply from the farmer's cow or goats... Also these all prehibition era? Anything special sticks out comment lemme know this is my first hole. I can digg like a madman tho cuz of my 30 years of rockhounding. If ground wasn't froze would a brought back 50+ bottles I bet. Instead I wasted 20 or 30 minutes digging out a large stoneware joke just to break it. Also forgot My copper L roda so didn't attempt to use any stick to find buried stash nearby... Also I found three or four of the most totally elaborate and colorful plates all together and broken was wondering if you guys know about those or if anyone else tumbles broken antique glass. I tried some with my rocks and was so impressed now I have a 10 lb tumbler I use just for glass. Is say they come out 10x easier and less flawed then stones with 1/4th the time 1/4 the cost 1/3 the materials... Lemme know if y'all want I'll post some photos of the tumbled glass sometime... Thanks :)

Nice bottles👍

Those bottles are much older then prohibition. Being embossed, most likely from the late 1800's. If I were you, don't dig anymore until the ground thaws. You don't to break any more.
Oh really? Thanks for the heads up! Been posting on Reddit too and it first one to point out this. I've been finding spoons too every now and again five or six of them they're all the same and someone dated them at 1890s so if you're saying they could be pre-prohibition My head that means they're probably more rare and could be some mportant ones. I'm deep, I'd say 8-10 feet. About 250-300 bottles and not stopping. The broken ones are mostly from me. Only digger I got is this about 18inch L shaped crowbar I ran tap along to stop from chipping them.

Discount all the screwcaps, then all the bottles with seams running over the lip of the bottle as being 1900 or older.

The bottles with the side seam stopping before the upper lip are pre 1900.

The following link has a 25 page pdf that explains the dating of what bottles you are digging.

Now for digging bottles.
It's not a race to get the most in the least amount of time.
Hand scratcher 3 prong, or a long handle one are used with care digging.
Chipping a bottle is knocking the value from top to almost the bottom.
Scratching the glass is just above Chipping.
A bottle probe is very useful when used correctly.

That's a very great comment thanks I'll have to read that also thanks for the advice I realize a broken bottle even if it's just a chipped tip or a small crack it's pretty much valueless so the ones that I have that are like that I just tumble them they come out great. Also that's great advice on the lip... If it's pre-1900 does that increase the value at all does my plan is here all my bottles at once.... The reason I'm digging bottles is there's no good rocks around and nobody wants to talk to me in this town... It's weird cuz I've never had problems making friends but I've been here over a year and I had one friend but he stole from me so I had to tell him to go f*** himself :( after you clean up all your bottles how do you display them nicely or what do y'all do with them anyways. Also there's stoneware where I'm digging but out of the two dozen I've seen there only one of them I got not broken. No lid tho. It's just so interesting cuz I have no idea what's going to come up next I was there dig in for most of the day I'll make a post after I clean up.

Stoneware rarely survives it seems.
Fragile, susceptible to water then freezing.
There are many great examples that have been dug.
Not sure of the demographics of your digging. Just a dump, or is it a pit?

It's the first time I ever dug a hole I found a couple bottles on the surface. And decided to metal detector area but was way too many signals every swing I'd get like six beeps. Anyways I pulled out my copper L rods, and they led me to a large tree. I went on historical aerial viewers and did some research and found out that there was a really old farm there with maybe moonshiners... Anyways I got permission and started digging, I have a 20x wide by ten ish deep by ten across with my tailings I just feel a large cooler and dump them behind me, pushing the tailings back into hole when I'm done... Was wondering about tailings and not missing little stuff if I load the cooler with my dirt and dump it behind me on a pile it falls and separates so I kind of see the stuff two or three times not sure if I'm missing stuff or not haven't used detector on tailings yet... But the dealings by all seems massive compared to the hole ... This whole thing is a new experience for me, I'm in a good picker I spent my whole life picking it gets with all my free time till I moved here when there's no way it's here so I tried to detecting, That's how I learned about copper L rods, then learned a bottle digging and used elrods to find my first spot That's my story. I suspect that it's a prehibition/prohibition to farmer/moonshiners dump based off finds... I got 300+ bottles and gold pocketwatch case. (Contains 7.5 grams 14k) Can't get a job where I live but I'm not a bumm so I find something worth my time rock picking in metal detecting couldn't do it here but if I can dig a lot of bottles maybe I won't be waisting my youth away on YouTube. Btw this was my hand today. Does proving your right about not going fast!

Is the fork metal? Also not trying to b negative but I'll bet I break that in 20 minutes :/
Potato fork tines are metal. They're like a heavy-duty pitchfork. They are quite tough and I really doubt you'd break one.

Is this a dump, as in tossed willy nilly, or a pit that was filled over time? Are the bottles in layers, as in cork top below screw top? if they are just tossed on together, than this site is early 1900's, as cork bottles lived along side early screw types for some time. Change takes time.
