More Flat Buttons, Crotal Bell, and Some Other Interesting Finds from the 1830s Site

I went out for a couple hours this afternoon with my daughter to the 1830s farm site. It was above freezing today but the ground was still frozen down a about 2 or 3 inches. My best find was a Turner Bower & Co. "Best Treble" flat button. The tiny crotal bell was an interesting find. Almost all of the items were found in a 15x30 foot area. One of the other flat buttons says "Warranted Orange". I think the area may have been a trash dump or burn pile because the ground is full of signals and a lot of the finds show evidence of being in a fire. I am now up to 19 flat buttons from this site.

I guess you know the last picture is a padlock keyhole cover.
Can't see a 'crotal' bell but looks like a small cat bell.

Well done getting a few recoveries from the site again. That's a lot of buttons, so there's been some lengthy activity.

It seems that you have a 100+yr spread on the finds. Which isn't a bad thing in any way, it's just the way it is.
The lock cover and buttons are certainly in the same era-but the little bell/tag/lighter wheel/key are in another.

From doing sites for a long period of time the finds are concentrated to a small area as yours is.

I don't see the evidence of being burnt on the lock cover, or the buttons, the lead isn't either.
If the house/trash pit burns you'd be digging blobs of lead, and melted blobs of other things.
Glass is always a great indicator if a fire happened-it has that unmistakable look to it.
