Never heard of them. Been studying muzzle loading firearms since before 1976, when I really got interested. Not saying I know everything, but never heard of "whistlers." Post pictures and accurate measurements please.

if they have holes through them they are most likely fishing weights or net weights

My friends I respect your answers but I dont believe these are fishing weights, this is rice country.
Here are some pics of some recent finds "whistlers" the name supposed to come from chasing birds off of my ancestors rice fields. "whistling the fowl". I feel these are colonial, but were found along with ringers and such in family fields IMG952013033095175711.jpg 0401132129.jpg 0401132130.jpg Hope the pics help

May be a pulled bullet, were the bullet got jammed or something and they had too get down in there with a tool and pull it out, but they could have used it like the others are saying for fishing stuff.

Yessir you could be rite. I wondered if anyone in the coastal rice belt had found these. Brunswick Ga. to below Wilmington N.C. I guess thats why you ask... I only know of the local finds.

i have found those here in savannah ga. Sometimes soldiers would make holes through mucketballs to make fishing weights especially if theres a water source nearby. exact size would help the bullet experts in iding the bullets.
