Metal Detecting
I think my 12 year old daughter likes metal detecting as much as I do! She is a great helper too. I was detecting with her on our backyard today and while I was filling in one hole she continued detecting and got a good signal. I helped her dig it, and it was a 1905 Indian Head Penny! Which she also located with the pinpointer. This surprised me since out house was built just 12 years ago, but the dirt in certain parts of the yard must not have been disturbed. This is the oldest coin we've ever found. She was very excited, as was I!

Bryan,

Give my congratulations to your daughter on her fabulous find!!:icon_thumright:

Now you're going to have to play catch up to her finds, I bet she will not let you get ahead of her!!!:laughing7:

Wow. Not only did she find an Indian, but a beautiful one at that. I see a second detector in your family's future.

That's right Susan, I would love to get her, her own, so I can use mine!!! :)

It was a cool Father daughter moment when she found it and we realized what it was!

Congrats to your daughter, that is a great find for sure!

That's awesome, I still havent got an IH myself, Closest was a 1910 wheat.

My boys are 6 and 8 and like to follow me (and keep what coins I find), but aren't that great at swinging yet.

Congrats

Memories that will last forever... Thanks for sharing

That's got some nice character. Congrats to your daughter. Start checking yard sale ads and pawn shops for a machine for your daughter. There are some killer used machines out there at great prices...many of them barely know what dirt is.

Nice find even better that you got to be there for those priceless moments! 8-) Good luck on finding that killer used machine!

Get Diggins!

She got a great find, and it will be a memory she will never forget.

Bryan,

I didn't notice it until now, but am I seeing a hole in the Indian?

If so I would hang that baby on a chain for your daughter to wear, it's her little metal detecting trophy!!!:goldtrophy:

The dirt it was found in could have been hauled in for fill? Coin could have come with it? Nice find though!

first of all I have to say I am surprised that you can reproduce.
Secondly, good for her!! she is already better at mding than I am. ( jealousy fills me) and i am certain, as a father, that her find makes you happier than if you found it
Good on ya mate!

AU, it's does have a dent/hole, but it doesn't go all the way thru. I like the idea though...

That's great. I bought my six year old daughter a junior detector and she goes with me often. I have gave up many a wheat penny after finding it; hiding it again and telling her to check that spot. Hopefully she too will find something awesome like your daughter did! Congrats to you and your little treasure hunter!
