My first Liberty (Updated wth pics)

Yesterday at my house, I found my very first Standing Liberty Quarter. It was in very good shape with all details. The only problem is that the date is mostly rubbed off. I was extremely careful in cleaning it and gentle, but the date wasn't there to begin with. It has an 8 for the last number so it's got to either be a 1918 or 1928. I need to find my jewelers loop it may help. This is my first ever, the only other silver coin I've ever found was a 1936 Mercury Dime in my yard also.

By the way next to the date plate on the right is the letter M, anyone know what that stands for? Thanks

First, the M stands for Herman McNeil, the coin's designer. Second, it's easy to tell if it's a 1918 or 1928. Is the area under the date flat or recessed? If it's flat (which I suspect it is), then it's a 1918. That was the reason that the dates wore off quickly. In 1925, the recessed that area so the dates would not wear off nearly as fast. Any mintmark will be above the date on the opposite side from the M.

Thanks everyone. Here are some pictures of it. I am guessing it the flat date and not the raised date kind. I am afraid to clean it anymore.
