Went on my first hunt today and it was cut short because we had to make an emergency trip to Texas, but I managed to find several coins, a rusty old knife, and a wallet with a metal tag (land owner knows the family of who the wallet belongs to, his decades old drivers license was in it, so he is returning it to them).

I got them cleaned up the best I can while on this unexpected road trip. It was so much fun and thank you to all that gave me advice and encouragement! I can’t wait to do it again.

Just out of curiosity…..and if you mentioned before I apologize…..but how much junk (cans, tabs, nails, etc) did you dig along with your other finds?
Good question, I didn’t mention it before and looking more at the metal detector finds I should have taken pictures of that stuff too. I dug up about 4 nails (what looked like nails but were really rusty), 3 links to a large chain, and a couple of nuts and one bolt (all small).

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!!

Welcome to the hobby & Tnet from over the pond:metaldetector::hello:

GWW... great first hunt... you did very well and if i were you i would seriously consider returning to that same area for future hunts for it has not been detected from the looks of it.
Btw...
Hunts like that are all it takes to get ya hooked. :)

That’s awesome for a first hunt! It sounds like you had some great finds, especially the wallet with the metal tag—how cool that it can be returned to the family. Even though your hunt was cut short, it sounds like you made the most of it. Keep up the great work, and I’m sure there’s plenty more out there waiting for you! Can’t wait to hear about your next adventure!

wow, you set the bar pretty high!! wtg. Walking liberty, war nickel, dollar coin and Sacagawea on the first hunt. Well played young lady😊

Apple cider vinegar works great on rusty items like the knife, if you have the patience. I like to play with it when I find things like pliers that look balls of rust and get them moving again. It Can take a month or more but let the item soak, occasionally take it out and brush it, wire brush if not anything special, then back into soak.

Oh and I like to give them a quick soak in evapo rust and then a coat of Remington oil to avoid flash rusting

Thank you. I think, as did the others with me, that I stumbled across where someone dropped their collection. I'm going back out there, I just don't know when yet with this out of state move happening.

Wow! That's an amazing difference. I'll try that when I need to. Thank you.

Someone was mad at that quarter lol very cool wheat back pennies and half dollar.

The first coin I found was a half rotted Zinc Penny.
But I was still happy because I thought to myself ...
wow - this thing really works !

Yep, great start, hope it continues. You've outdone me on my first attempts for sure......
Thank you. I’m not anticipating anything like that first try ever happening again.

Right! I had no idea what I was doing or hearing, it just made noise so I dug. I know there’s always a little luck but it takes skill, something I’ll need in the future because luck alone won’t be enough.
