Personal find central Sierra Nevada foothills El Dorado County . Haskett
Time Period : 13200-8000 B.P.
Location : Idaho, N.W. Nevada and Southern Oregon.
Shape : Lanceolate / Basalt

Description:
A medium to large size, narrow, thick, lanceolate point with parallel flaking and a ground, convex to straight base. It comes in two types: Type I expands towards the tip (Could be resharpened type IIs). Type II is basically parallel sided to excurvate. Consistantly dated older than Clovis from hydration dates obtained from controlled conditions. One such test dated Haskett to 12,100 years old. The Haskett point is related to Cougar Mountain points found on the same sites. Haskett /Lind Coulee points later evolved into Alberta & Agate Basins. An extremely rare type with only a few dozen complete examples known. Information from Overstreet

That’s an awesome piece. Your collection is another as good as it gets. I remember reading old than Clovis before it was popular and figured that kind of find would come from the Great Basin area. I think it still there just waiting to be found. I can hardly wait.

Thanks yes the bottom 1/4 of the stem sides you can see slight color variation where it was hafted ? Its easer to feel the difference .

Just Wow!
I had to ‘Google’ that rarity. Apparently, they documented a Utah find that was tested and confirmed to have Mammoth protein residue.
What a treasure!
Congratulations!

I may have a couple more smaller points in another frame and some mid sections from another camp a couple of miles south at the same elevation . I'm sure they could see each others smoke just across the canyon from each other . My computer died and I'm trying to reload all my files into a new stand alone .

I found mine in the foothills around Nevada City, just north of you. What a beauty! Great find! Same material too I believe, a fine grained basalt.

South fork...here ya go. I found this in a little creek on my in-laws property outside of Nevada City. My wife found a nice broke there too. I’ve found a couple other hard stone pieces there as well. I’m thinking about staking a gold claim further down just to work it a bit more. This is actually the first projectile point I ever found.
