my wife found a fossil out at the claim

my wife found this out at my groups claim here in southern nevada, pretty sure its a fossil but the "all seeing all knowing" google could not help with identifying it. i know nevada used to be underwater xxx years ago, this looks like something that might have lived on the floor of that ocean. hope someone can help this.

ok so after going through seemingly endless sideroads on the subject of prehistoric life that could have lived in the pre-nevada ocean , i have drawn my own conclusion (subject to change if someone has better information) that while it looks like a fossil, i think it is more of a type of fossilized coral that "lived" around 100 to 500 million years ago. this conclusion was arrived at based on similar images of forms of life. so now i will be looking for gold at night on the claim (due to it being quite hot here during the day in the desert mountains where the claim is) then i will be spending some of my mornings looking for more fossilized coral type rocks.

I believe your beat up ( cool fossil, just tough to ID ) specimen is shown upside down. Look up crinoids. An echinoderm that is still living today, but also found in 400 to 500 million year old deposits.

crinoids. interesting.....upside down, how can you tell? i was "presuming" that is where the "stem" is/was where the "top" is/was, did not find anything that could determine its up/down positioning.
