Hello All,

I dug this half-cut and worn nearly slick silver today. Itโ€™s nearly 2mm thick so itโ€™s too thick for a 2 Reales. Diameter is 31.8mm so itโ€™s too large for a 2R (being cut, Spanish silver was my first thought). Iโ€™m uploading three photos. One of each side, and a zoomed in and rotated photo of the side that has a faint wreath or design visible on it between the 6 oโ€™clock and 9 oโ€™clock positions (zoomed in photo).

How about a 4 reale?
Now thatโ€™s an interesting idea. The wreath border is consistent w a Mexican republic 4R and the size and thickness are correct. I had dismissed a 4R because theyโ€™re so rarely dug.

Some of the wreath type leaves I can see. Let me clean the coin a bit and see if anything else can be seen

I'd go with the 4R suggestion; especially, if it test .90 pure.
32 mm is the standard diameter for an old Mexican 4R coin.
Yours, at 31.8 is close enough in that condition.
Don,..
I just tested it and the test color is much closer to .925 than 800, so I think itโ€™s safe to say itโ€™s .900 silver

Hmmm the hair details of a late 1700s half ecu could imitate the features of a wreath.
