That wouldn,t be a representation of Neptune would it? Maybe a unit insignia,like British Expeditionary Force,Company_. Just a guess.

Yeah, I think it is not military but a company trademark design. I couldn't find out what, tho. The figure is odd, in a kilt, with a beard, and is either poling or oaring, or something. I thought Paul Bunyan, maybe, but haven't found him depicted in a kilt.

My second guess,some kind of logging activity.Some thing to do with some Scottish activity,like the games they have throwing cabers and such.I,m going way out there now,huh?

Here is an 1870s billhead for the Boston Elastic Fabric Co. (B.E.F. Co.) with that trade mark design.
