I was going to say it was a good luck symbol of fertility until I remembered that Native Americans may not have been properly equipped to see a sperm cell, even a fat one.

Ok, sorry, odd sense of humor over here.

That is a super cool piece though, I'd love to have something like that for my 'what the hell was this used for' rack.

Wouldn't that stone make an awesome mold for molten gold, copper, or silver to be poured into? Make one heck of a precious metal "horn" pendant! Sub 8-)

It is a "comma" from a paleo-printing press

Dont know, but its a nice piece. Try posting it in Native American Artifacts. I'll bet someone on that forum can help you nail it down.

pure speculation...Maybe it was used to mash up like indigo or some kind of dye then they could tilt it and the liquid would pour out the little spout there. Thats my best guess haha. Awesome find!

I live near Cherokee Co. I know the director of the local museum there and I'll see if they know what it is. If you find out through native artifacts keep us informed

Reposting this from today's find.
Best guess my buddy has it that it's a native lantern. I have no suggestions, I'm clueless.

Found in a creek in Northern VA.

Now that is a cool piece.

I am wondering why the narrow portion of the depressed area looks a bit lighter in color, like it was scratched?

I have the same wonder.
The purpose of this item could be hinted at by that light "line" in the narrow curved part.
