I've tried to google this person, but, can't seem to come up with a positive I.D. anyone have a way of narrowing this search down? Maybe someone with access to a military database? I'd like to either find this person or a living relative. I found this at a washed out beach, so, I can't tell how old it might be. It sort of looks like it might have had a ferrous ball type necklace at one time, but, the only thing left is a bit of rust stain.

The format for the tag is that specified between 1st January 1972 and 12th August 2012. In 1972 the US Navy stopped using the individual’s SN (Service Number) for identification purposes and switched to their 9-digit SSN (Social Security Number) but without the hyphens. That continued until 12th August 2012 when they switched to 10 digit DoD’s (Department of Defense) numbers.

Social Security Number 466-23-3555 was issued in Texas in 1973.

Identical layout to my navy dog tag, circa 1977.
