WOW, what an exciting hunt, this fine Spanish 1/2 Reale came out, such fine details on the reverse, 1802 is clear on obverse, mint mark of Mexico City, Mexico. Just think, this was minted in Mexico City, came by ship to a port in America and then was distributed by horse and mule wagons to the small towns around NC. I wonder how many were in a bag? 1000? Would like to find the bag!!!

Also found an early lipstick case with floral design, 1944 D Lincoln, a round pistol shot or musketball shot, a flat button and something I have no clue to what it is? Seemed to have once had a porcelain or resin inlay on the front.

Awesome reale Sosdiving! Its funny you mentioned the journey it took because that's the first think I think of when I dig a Spanish silver or British copper. Its wild to think about that silver being mined, minted then put on a ship to sail up to our colonies that long ago.... then you get to hold it. Its just awesome history.

Congrats on the Reale from North Carolina. Been looking for one in the Western part of the state for years. Rare as hen's teeth round here.

Awesome feeling when you find a silver coin that old and as mentioned imagine it's journey through time not to mention all the hands that held it, I think about that aspect even when looking at newer coins of today!!

You had me going with the wheatie until I looked at your photo and realized it's a 1944 D and not a 1914 D which is worth a few hundred bucks, that being said check that D mint mark carefully it could be a 1944 D/S, which could be worth $50 to $100+ or so depending on the condition, don't clean it if you really don't know how to do so without reducing it's value if indeed it's a key date coin.

Thanks for the observation!!! 1944 D versus 1914 D, I was too excited to type about the 1802 Reale, at least I did not put 2002 Reale!!!
