What a HAPPY New Years Day 2016 hunt. This is a FIRST ever for me, discovering a Spanish Silver. My wife got me a pair of Grey Ghost Deep Woods headphones for Christmas, and I was out validating them again, with more successful results. I was hunting Rolesville, NC, Wake County's second oldest town. In the hole, I thought it was a shiny Tombac button, but was I mistaken, greatly mistaken. A silver, very worn, coin came to light. It was so thin and worn down, but from inspection it appears to be a 1/2 Reale - Carlos III, minted between 1772-1788, it weighs in at 1.4 grams, and about 16mm. The back has a few minor features, for identification, and the front is indistinguishable. The week before I discovered the LARGEST FLAT BUTTON I have ever recovered. What is a thought for feedback is...large brass coat button, a lot of dark black oxidation, I am wondering if this is silver sulfide, from a silver gilt? Any thoughts, the button is plain and undecorated. Any rate back to colonial Spanish SILVER!, small and worn, but what history this piece has. Finding the silver coin for New Years Day, well, that's the richest find for me. HAPPY NEW YEAR, and wish you all the BEST. Cheers. Congrats on your first Spanish Silver. Worn or not, any Spanish Silver is a good one.

I think there are some left in Raleigh for sure, under 540! There are still some good sites around Wake County, I grew up Raleigh when the north section was all country. Thanks for the support!
