Ok as most of my friends on here know I’ve medically retired from law enforcement due to back injuries and knee injuries. So after a long hiatus, longest I’ve had in 31 years of detecting I’m finally able to get back out and detect. I’ve now had 5 back surgeries and have a ripped Deltoid in my left shoulder, so I’m fairly limited and this is the main reason why I’m asking for some help here. I’m digging a lot of nails, and I mean A LOT. I’ve got a fairly Virgin 1839 home I’m trying to help get it on the register by finding dateable evidence as well as the structure of the home which I’ve made livable.

So my dilemma, I’ve got the Nox 900, and I use the standard modes at the home that’s littered with square nails and other things lost to time in all those years but the Nox 900 is so chattery even turning it down to 14-15 on sensitivity. I know the 800 was easier to knock out the nails on the iron bias, but on ours it goes all the way to 9 and still hits the nail repeatable. I turn on the All Metal Mode and hear all the iron chatter, but I get good repeatable signals and dig them and it’s a nail, I’ll go to the next and all metal on, and I hear a hint of iron at the end of the swing so I pass it up and turn around and my brothers found a silver dime there. In that swing it came up with on all metal, 69-70, and then on the iron end it would come up with a repeatable -17, -19. So what’s that mean? That it somehow fell into that spectrum, my brother bought the Notka not even sure of the model, but I’ve had him come over to targets to check for me and he won’t get a signal one, I knowing I’ve spend 2 and a half times more than him digs it and it’s a more modern nail. Also, why is it that once the target is out of the hole it won’t go off where it’s at? All my other detectors have done it. Everyone says to “listen” and not look at VDI, dad was a Tesoro dealer for years so I’ve learned to never look at it unless I’m changing the modes, because I don’t know where some of this crap comes in at. The 800 had an update, does anyone know if the 900 is? I know Calabashdigger did a video on the 900, and him and I detect the same stuff, and our grounds are very similar as I’ve hunted in the same state and county as him. So I wish he could help on some of the setups here. I’m to the point now, my back can’t handle keeping on digging these targets that are good repeatable signals and only at the end does it have a iron grunt and it’s a nail. My back, knee, and shoulder are going out and I just need some help from some of my old time followers on setups they use. I don’t care about ground balance because I can always manually change it, also to note, I’ve even used the 6” coil over at that house and can’t get past the nails. Then I join a Facebook group for this detector and everyone acts like I’m a jackass and new so I don’t know what I’m doing or talking about. I’ve owned almost every Whites made, I know I’ve used every Tesoro made, and owned the AT Max before this and then got the 900. I’m regretting getting rid of the Max

you might try the same setting this guy is using. See video @10:08 min. for NOX 900.

I think his iron bias is too low but everybody hunts differently. Use the 6" coil and see if your results are much different. Good luck!

I’ve got her dialed in already by the time I saw this. I wish TN had an App since I don’t get notifications anymore, but I started off on the large coil in a very trashy area and was quickly discouraged, then went to the 6”, and used it for about 100 hours, and back to the larger coil and have been about 400hrs in and have overtime figured out when I need or should get the little coil out.
