Not long ago I would have passed this up as the tip of a broken arrowhead.
Now I look closer. It IS the tip of a broken arrowhead that was fixed up to be used as a triangle point. Recycle / Re-Use.

Seems nothing is bigger than a nickel around here. Gotta have a good eye or have the light shining just right. The latter in my case.

Can I ask what the purpose was in retouching the base? It was flaked from both faces.
Seems like that part of the point would be sandwiched between something and it wouldn’t matter if it was busted perpendicular to the faces?

Or am I way off base with the recycled theory?

Makes a nice little scraper but most triangles are chipped on all sides. Good find.

I’m wondering why the need? Maybe it was just proper to finish the point completely. Functionally I don’t get it unless it’s some of stress relief strategy.

I believe it relates to how the point will fit in the haft; e.g. split shaft vs slotted shaft.

I wonder how deep the point was embedded in the shaft. It almost looks like it has tiny notched shoulders at the base...is that the correct way to say that?

Mundane I know. Just trying to learn.

Excellent question and observation. You know the old saying, The devil is in the details.
Those tiny burr notches (or ears) could be present for tying at the haft. Check for light grinding in the notch. My guess, those little burrs are for slicing arteries during penetration.
