Wierd part base wouldn't have been that nice or even that functional. It does have slight fluting before base so perhaps was reused after it broke? Like a shallow ground depression on one side where you think it hafting came into place. The more I look at it I think its complete with a slite break on bottom and never had a base due to the slight fluting.

I mean didnt have a stem? Idk this one has me confused.

The break doesnt go all along bottom. It's more of a chip off to one side. You can see in the below attached photo.

Up north,
Exact same reason I have no input on your points. The stuff you find is gorgeous. Unreal stuff.
You really hint some unbelievable ground.

I'm still a newbie after a few years of doing this. There is so much to learn.

I doubt Neville.

Tough to ID that one with any certainty. I think you?re first impression of Broke Base is correct. It appears that part of a steep angular shoulder survived on one side. Not sure what to make of it.

Still a nice find!

Thanks guys.
The more I look at it, it does appear that it would have had some sort of stem. However, it would not have been centered but off to one side with the predominant shoulder you see on the opposite side.
Them stem would have been thin as the break tapers to the edges considerably. Perhaps the reason no more stem.
I'm going with knife/blade on this one.

Nice find, I'm probably wrong (which I usually am, just ask my wife) but I don't think the base is broke. I think it was made that way, possibly not thinned out there for some reason.

Thanks everyone.

Yes that one of the possibilities I thought. The snapped looking part is on an angle and appears kn only one side of the peice. The other side has a finished base and thinned across entire width.

Did not know it was flint either! Thanks

Great find. Pretty sure that’s one of the rhyolites, though, not flint. I love the many rhyolite varieties we have up here, but I’m weak at IDing the specific type…

Thanks Charl,

I only have a handful or chert/ flint pieces. Therfore the different types or chert or flint do come as a surprise to me. Rhoylite is the better fit. Chert or flint in the cases I come across tend to have in most instances some sort of gloss or shine, even if it was extremely weathered. That's just my experience. This has a flat appearance and perhaps the wet photos gave the flint appearance.
