New and Need Some HELP...with Minelab's

Hello All,

This is my first real post...

I am looking at Minelab detectors, came across a little extra cash, but need help in deciding what to buy.

I have been at this for a bit, but want a detector for the long hall. Usually had White's but am looking to change.

Really need some advise, please. I am looking at an ML Exterra- 705, or Safari.

I am a general hunter, in the Northeastern US.

Any advise is more then welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Mark

I have the 705. One big difference between it and the Safari is weight. The Xterra is at least a pound lighter, so if weight is a consideration for you the Xterra is the way to go. Don't know much else about the Safari, but from what I've read here, the Etrac or 3030 would be better choices. Both are also heavy though.

Thanks for the info.
Weight, really not an issue...
just looking for a "better/good" detector

Hi... I also have the 705. I did a lot of research on the internet before I purchased it. I am very happy with it. I find it light weight and very user friendly. Today I was out at a park that was very trashy. In the area I was in, there were places where you couldn't move your coil with out it sounding off. I had it set in All Metal at 99 tones and used the tones to help differentiate between the targets so that I didn't have to stare at the display. I was able to pull clad coins out from between the trash. I've only been at this for a few months, but I was impressed. Hope this helps.

Metal Detecting
The 705 (a single frequency VLF) and the Safari (a multi-frequency VLF) are completely different machines.

Minelab Safari: Powered by Minelab's Full Band Spectrum (FBS) multiple frequency technology, the Safari combines deep, sensitive and accurate detecting for anyone demanding both simplicity and performance. Safari uses advanced digital filtering to eliminate the influence of ground signals automatically so you can experience easy, seamless detecting whatever the field conditions.

With its High Trash Density setting, Target Ids and audio tones are updated when sweeping over closely spaced targets fast! This improves the recovery of deeply buried high conductivity targets in a trashy environment and allows you to more accurately identify the type of target found.

Discover the adventure and excitement of detecting with a Safari today!

Features:
  • FBS multiple frequency technology.
  • Ultra-lightweight 11" Double-D waterproof coil combines high performance, great depth and sharp pinpointing.
  • Four pre-programmed detection modes - Coin; Coin/Jewellery; Relic and All Metal. Each individual mode contains the optimum settings for identifying the characteristics of your preferred targets, allowing you to maximise your time in the field.
  • Pinpoint with audio and visual indicators for more accurate detection – press the pinpoint button and watch the Safari zone-in on the precise location of that precious target.
  • Trash Density - High ensures fewer false signals experienced in typical coin and relic environments so you don’t waste time digging for junk, while low is ideal for clean sites to make sure you don’t miss anything.
  • Target Volume Adjust - adapts target signal volume to suit user preference.
  • Noise Cancel - automatically selects the quietest, most stable channel for detecting.
  • Intuitive menu interface for fast and easy access and adjustment.
  • Robust, well balanced design and long lower shaft for comfortable detecting over longer periods

Minelab X-Terra 705: The X-TERRA 705 can be used for gold prospecting as well as for coin & treasure hunting, simply by switching between available pre-programmed modes (and Coils which run $140-$200 each). Thanks to Coin & Treasure and Gold Prospecting Modes you get a gold detector plus coin, treasure & relic detector all in one!

Across diverse detecting conditions and in the toughest environments, the X-TERRA 705 delivers optimal performance with ease. An all-purpose detector capable of all types of detecting, from coin & treasure to relic, beach and gold prospecting. Performance and features driven, the versatility of this detector makes it without question, the leading detector in this category.

The specialised Prospecting Mode has improved sensitivity making the detector more sensitive to small target signals. The Prospecting Mode can be used in highly mineralised, 'difficult' areas. The high frequency Double-D coils offer advantages, as they are adept at handling these conditions. The Prospecting Mode is ideal not only when searching for gold nuggets but also for small relics and some types of jewellery.

Features:
  • Minelab’s proprietary "True Digital" VFLEX technology, the new class of single frequency detectors allowing you to change the frequency simply by changing coils.
  • Compatible with low, mid and high frequency coils - all 7 X-TERRA accessory coils can be used with the X-TERRA 705.
  • Automatic/Manual Ground Balancing, Tracking and now with Tracking Ground Balance Offset adjustment. This creates a performance advantage in certain areas such as wet/dry sand transition and hot rock locations, by setting the balance slightly positive or negative.
  • Four preset detecting patterns, that can also be customised plus All-Metal mode.
  • Adjustable Iron Mask – designed for Prospecting Mode. This feature allows you to find desirable targets lying close to ferrous metals.
  • Threshold tone for more accurate target ID interpretation.
  • Two Pinpoint Modes: Auto and Sizing. With the new Sizing feature, the user gets valuable information on target characteristics including shape and size with variable tone and graphical indicator.
  • Target ID stability – precise, solid responsiveness in high-trash areas enabling you to efficiently and effectively search sites with a high concentration of junk.
  • Positive transflective LCD display providing a back light only in dim light conditions enabling better screen visibility in poor lighting whilst saving battery charge in well lit conditions.
  • Depth indicators, update continuously, even in Pinpoint mode.
  • Runs on just 4 x AA batteries.
  • Ultra lightweight, balanced design (only 1.3kgs) so you can enjoy detecting for longer periods.
