Hello. I tried a new site that produced my oldest large cent. I was pretty psyched! Also a holed half dime thats badly damaged. I was hoping for a date. Its my second half dime. I also found the ring. I read about the Providence Ring Co. of Rhode Island that made plated rings with these marks around 1900. I'm steering in that direction for the ring because I found it in the same place as the coins. Good luck to all.

Nice looking LC. Too bad about the half dime. I'm surprised you didn't get any flat buttons out of that spot (or did you)?

Good selection of finds. Please educate me with the 'SOLID GOLD' stamp, is this official & which country has this as an accepted mark?

It looks like you got yourself one nice place to hunt. You made some really good finds. I just got permission to detect a 120 acre farm with a home built in 1792. Been in the same family since it was built. I'm psyched!

This is the only thing I found while briefly trying to find out myself what that SOLID GOLD means:

I think one of the reasons that some companies stamped their rings as "solid gold" instead of 9 or 10k was because they wanted customers to associate "solid gold" with "pure gold," even though they are two very different things.

Perhaps someone will know more.

Your LC is in very good condition. Too bad the half dime wasn't. The ring does look home made except for the unusual stamping. Thanks for sharing the pics and story.

That's got to be the worst Silver coin I've ever seen. Is there any sign that it might have been through a fire ?
I agree! No sign of fire in the ground.

lhttp://www.mytreasurespot.com/main/read.php?26,422645,422645 Here's a link I found that describes a similar ring that was found. There was a metal act in 1906 governing the stamping of jewelry. There was a company here in the US stamping rings solid gold even thou they were actually plated before the metal act of 1906 outlawed this.

I'm probably not posting the photo's right. Still confused about which URL to use.

Funny, I'm looking on an iPhone, it isn't just photos that seem to be missing. I see nothing in the original post whatsoever. Maybe the app?
