Newbie needing educated

I went out this morning and was doing some panning out of a creek behind my house, I'm very new at panning and this whole hobby so that is why I'm now asking my question. What type of material am I finding in the bottom of this pan? I'm not expecting it to be gold, but don't know what the material is I'm finding.

Could very well be gold...looks to be, and it's the heaviest thing in the pan, no?
