Hi everyone. This is my first time posting. I am an amateur detector. We live on a land tract in SC very close to the Catawba river. The river is shallow here and was part of the great indian warrior trading path. Also, Col William Davies had a plantation named Tivoli about 1/2 mile from my house. The area has a rich history of indian and recolutionary/civil war movement. I started detecting in our property and have found lots of stuff. This is just a tiny bit of my finds. I have also dug up about 40 lbs of old square nails and various spikes.

Congratulations on your finds. You have just unearthed some lost history.
If I may make a suggestion, any of the rusty/corroded iron objects you want to keep need to be cleaned and preserved. There are a few ways to clean, but I prefer electrolysis. You can choose your own method based on how badly corroded. And after cleaning, you will need to coat with a preservative. Several ways here also. I like and use wax for all iron. If not too many large objects I use Renaissance Wax Polish. I use it on all my buttons and such also. If you already knew all this sorry for jumping in here. Thanks for sharing your finds.

Thank you for your advice on cleaning/ preserving. I am looking into how to do electrolysis. For now, i have stashed all my stuff inside the house in ziplok bags😀. What i posted is the tip of the iceberg of all the stuff i have found. I have a couple things that i haven’t identified yet. How is best on this website to ask for help?

I think you picked the right way. Do a post and ask for help. You really did not ask for help on this post I just volunteered it in case you needed help preserving your finds. It is also very important to document the location of finds. Unfortunately, I did not do that in my early days but do now.

By the way, I am not expert on this site. Maybe some of the old timers will jump in with good ideas for you on posting. I joined in 2017 but left right after that for Brazil so have not done much with this site till very recently.

Good hunting.
