newby wants to know if I can legally metal detect in Cancun?

I told my wife that we could go to a beach somewhere instead of another cruise this coming spring if I could take my metal detector with me. We're thinking about Cancun/Playa. Is it legal there? If no one knows, where is the best place to post this question? Thanks.
