There's no big story related to this button; I just am amazed by the condition it is in, all things considered. So many of these 2-piece buttons from circa 1840 are destroyed by moisture getting inside. It still has a decent amount of the gold gilt on the front, too.
The reverse picture is a little out of focus; the writing "LEAVENWORTH & CO" is really sharp, and "SUPERFINE" isn't too bad either.

Recovered after work from near a barn on an 1800's homesite that's part of our local National Register of Historic Places district.
(Found two Mercury Dimes also, which was nice).
