Back to the park today. I was pretty tired to start but just couldn't turn down this beautiful day! (Especially since they said it was going to get cold again. :( )

Anyway, didn't find too much and only stayed a little while. But, still, the finds found a way to be interesting.

I believe it's a spark plug gap tool. :dontknow:

Then, I called my shot on this coin. I said, "nickel".
Dug and saw it and said, "Yep".
Then I saw the condition & date, (haven't cleaned it)
And I said, "Nope! Silver!! Funny, didn't sound like silver."
So, I flipped it over to see the big mint mark.

I said, "Nope!?!?!" "???????" ??? :dontknow:

Actually, I didn't even know they had made a regular nickel in '42. (blush)
But, why did it come out in such good condition? Was down a good 6-8 inches. :dontknow:

Like I said, interesting! LOL

AND THEN.....out comes this thing! Kind of looks like there was either a loop or stud on the back at one time.

Military Captain? Or , maybe, captain of the soccer team? :dontknow:

Appears to be solid brass but I haven't tried to clean it yet.

Again, interesting!

Even when my ride showed up!

I may not have had a "classy" ride but it sure was interesting! LOL

Thanks for peeking!

First thing I thought was " gapping tool" too.

Any day out digging is a good day! Nice Matchbox!

the 'gap tool' isn't actually a spark plug gap tool, it is a keychain fob that features 4 different sizes of straight screwdrivers. the collar disc is interesting. it is most certainly WW1 era, but I have never seen one that lists rank. I'm kinda scratching my head on that one. I've done some looking on the net and haven't come up with anything. I'll post again if I find anything helpful

I did a bit of looking too. Not real seriously but I did look some. I couldn't find one either. I don't want to clean any more until I'm sure it isn't something special.

Thanks!

Never seen the word Capt on one… does look war world I though. Interesting find.

I'm betting on a Fire Dept. Captain.

Hmmmm, Fire Dept! There's one I hadn't considered. I don't know though. I'm also thinking there aren't a lot of "official" uniform buttons that don't have a backmark of some sort. :dontknow:

Thanks!

Yep, I got out also, first nice day all year. I hunted the curb strips of some abandoned lots and got several wheat pennies right off. Spent the whole rest of the day there and got nary a silver coin or anything else interesting. I absolutely hate finding wheat pennies but no silver...very discouraging. But like you said, No matter what you find or don't find this hobby has a way of staying interesting, and I am always ready to head out and start diggin' the next time! ...Cheers!

I have a 4 way screw driver fob on my key chain now, the writing is worn, I can read Sears on it. Something about tools, I bet it says Craftsmen on mine also.

Some days I go out and hit pay dirt, other days I become the pull tab king. Getting out is the most important thing.

As you probably know I already have this up in the What Is It forum. It appears to be a stumper. I've done several variation of searches on the net but nothing I put in gives me the answer. I am basically a neophyte when it comes to buttons but I thought something would turn up!.

I know! A custom designed button for a very vain Captain of the Water Brigade ! From, oh, say 17 - ought- and 10! ;) LOL

Blingie now has a fork lift/front loader to haul away all the bling you find for him!
Congrats on getting out! Nice finds! Hopefully spring will appear soon! Being limited where I can hunt is frustrating !

Cool finds & I agree its always interesting wondering what your going to find and then wondering how THAT ended up here.

I'm with "oddrod" my first thought on the CAPT button was fire department. But I find myself wondering where this was found. New England states have more of a history and tradition within the fire departments.

Are you near any waterways? Could this have been from a ship's Captain uniform? Just thinking outloud ...

Thanks for sharing & keep up the good work. HH

That's a really neat collar disc. I did a search & came up with one that says CAPT & it's the fire dept as someone suggested. Although this is not like yours it may be of some relevance...
