Hey Truth. Could you show the piece you called a short cannon with a photograph looking at the broken end inside of it? It looks fairly thin in the picture you posted.

Sound like it could be an exciting opportunity for you.

I believe it is a cast iron sewer joint also. The old style that was sealed with lead. I also believe I’d wash my hands really good after handing it for both reasons.
Agree. Cast iron plumbing pipe. Here's a piece of a 16 inch watermain pipe removed from under Bourbon St during the water system renovation in the French Quarter in 2019.

Pipe like this was installed throughout the city in the 1870's. The cast iron pipe system was phased out in the early 20th century.

Believe it or not, this piece is now part of the Historic New Orleans Collection. Not sure if it is on display in the museum yet, but that's the plan.
