🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Odd unique assumed key??

Local find in the ground or passed down from family that came from Europe?

Need background information. It could be an old church key for an early warded lock. It could be an ornamental gate key.

Material? XRF data?

that is really cool. Nice recovery. Looks old. What did it look like as found? Any structure nearby that it could have been a key for? I'm sure that's a high security , one of a kind key. Hope you find what it unlocks. Treasure chest?!

Looks like a heavy duty zipper pull to me. I’m not seeing the key aspect, but I’m not up on key history at all. MANY cultures use the cross as a symbol. Something about this one makes me think Swiss. Thanks for posting

Very cool. It's a key for a "slide lock", typically used to secure a chest or trunk. This one was said to be from the Middle East, or possibly China but I think not reliably assigned to either origin.



The two pictures below show the way the key operates the slide, with the lock closed in the first image and open in the second image. Difficult to date, but yours certainly looks to have significant age to it
