I dug up this small oval button with metal back and clear glass or plastic front. Inside the button appears (to me) to be a white tall bird. With head on left side, long neck, fairly large body and long tail feathers. The junction lf clear top and metal backing is rusted so im sure weather and moisture have affected it. Found on my property. I have unearthed a lot of other items dated late 1700’s to mid 1800’s. Any help identifying what type of button would be greatly appreciated. There is no marking on back that i can tell.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply. I have never seen a button with some thing in the middle. Would you think that it is bone or ivory? I tried to find something online similar for my reference, but I have not had any luck. Thanks again.
I also found a couple pieces that I was able to put together near this button that I believe might be a buttonhook from the best I can tell

More likely mother of pearl.
There were millions of types, I've had similar round ones like your, but not all are in books or referenced down to the last example.

Agree that it falls in the date range of the other things you have found there, the dawn of America’s first century!
