My Explorer II is about 10 years old. I know technology has changed a lot in the last 10 years.
I am wondering how much farther advanced are the newer machines (technologically). Would I have a much better machine with say a Soverign or an Etrac?

I am primarily a coin hunter and I am using the Explorer II for deeper targets.
If I were to go upgrade to a different Minelab, would my 15" WOT, and my Sun-Ray S-5 be usable on a newer detector?

Your old stuff will be compatable with an E-Trac, which has a faster processor than your Explorer.

Thanks Longhair....

Would the E-Trac, be the only Minelab MD that my coils would be compatible with (upgrading)?

Your coils are compatable with any FBS machine. The new FBS2 (CTX), V-Flex, and BBS machines are not compatable.

I have a Minelab 2 question. Where in the history of the explorer is the minelab 2? I know it's before the SE and ETrac but is it after the s and xs or before? What is the order of evolution of the Explorer?

Thanks,
Ed
P.S. Sorry to hijack your post Digger2. (Your post answered one of my minelab questions.....Thank You!

First in the FBS line of detectors was the Quattro. After that came the S/XS, then the II, then the SE/SE Pro.

I still use a 13 year old xs explorer. I hunt with a freind with an etrac and another with se pro. I still find about the same amount of goodies as they do. If you get a new etrac you'll probably realize how good the old explorer was. the new ones are more user freindly but old ones are'nt bad either.

I believe it's like this: Explorer, Explorer S, Explorer XS, Explorer 2, explorer se, etrac, then the ctx. I also remember seeing two versions of the Quattro, one was an economy version, but I could be wrong.

Had an explorer se, can't say enough bad thing about it. I have an Explorer 2 now and love it, especially with the WOT coil. Would not trade it for any of the other Explorers.

Here is the correct order:
1999: Explorer S and Explorer XS (The S was the economy model and not very popular)
2003: Explorer II
2004: Quattro MP
2006: Explorer SE
2008: Explorer SE Pro and Etrac
and the newest: CTX 3030

There was an Explorer before the S and the XS, simply called Explorer.

I have an EXP II, upgraded the coil to the slim line used on the SE Etrac. Generally the ability to separate targets went up as new models came out. To me the SE was not noticeable so I did not get one. By the way anyone looking for EXP II, shoot me an email. I might have one for sale?
