🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Old GOLD but what is it??

Found this at a old 1700s colonial homesite out in the woods.. Its got markings and its is little, I been told it could be part of a earring.. Anyone have info??

And after multiple searches in the time period of OPS timeframe vs jewelry FROM that period...
I can find no comp to this clasp style FOR that period in time.

Again... i will step back and wait to see if someone can find one... but i cannot.... nor have i ever seen that style of clasp on anything other than vintage era items.

Not saying it cannot be... and sure could be first time for me... so i am also curious.

I have no way to test it for gold right now, but it seen like there was something else that might of broken off?? Can see it at the end where its gapped.. Maybe Diamond part? Im going to back to spot to find it I hope..

It was for the attached stone.
Though there was a early era where the chain was attached to the lever. (saw it earlier-can't find it now)

This style lever back earring is 20th century. They're very different from earlier lever backs.

I suspect the second and third set of images are not the same item as the first. Especially since the hold plating is clearly wearing off in the first. Oh, and it is a key chain loop circa 1980.

Emil W nailed it. It's a modern earring, the clasp style is quite common on modern hoop earrings.

The slot is where the earring shaft swivels so it can be inserted into the ear piercing. The hole on the other end is where the shaft is captured.

Having seen literally thousands of these over the decades (my wife sells jewelry, old and new) I can say without a doubt this is what it is and that it isn't older than 20th century.
