I recently got permission to hunt around an old jailhouse in the area. The jailhouse was active from 1830-1849. My holy grail would be an old sheriff's star, but I may have found something similar, plus a few odds and ends.

I went out today to do a quick sweep of the property to see if there was anything that may be worth hunting for. This is what I found...

An old button: looks like it has a star on it. Do you think this could have been sheriff-related, or is it more modern?

I also found this thing, and I have no idea what it is. Looks to be made of brass. I found it put together, then realized it could screw apart...

Plus some misc stuff. I know I've seen something like this middle object, but not sure what it is...

Any help or guesses would be appreciated.

No ID on the button, but the "connector" is a fence/rail topper. I found a complete one with an ornamental spike still attached to the twisted wrought iron in the same spot today...
