Here are a few that come to mind. Enjoy.

crazy person: reckon their saw done hit a knot.
bad singer: sounds like a pine knot in a saw mill
bit dog barks first
dumber than a bag of barber hair
grinnin' like a stuffed possum
grinnin' like a butchers dog
making more noise than a heifer walking thru a dry thicket
tightwad: squeeze the nickel till the buffalo screams
blabbermouth: wore out three sets of lips
knock you flatter than a gander's arch
so cold it could freeze the nuts off a steel bridge
so skinny you can't hit them with a handful of corn
nip it in the bud
did it smell that bad when you ate it

I found a really old autograph book(1880's) at an estate sale that had some of the neatest old sayings in it---here's a few:
Life is like a crooked railroad,
And the engineer is brave,
Who can make life successful
From the cradle to the grave..

Sailing down the stream of life,
In your little bark canoe,
May you have a pleasant trip,
With just room enough for two.

Love many, Trust few, and always Paddle your own canoe!

If you can't say something nice ...
don't say anything.

It's best to stay quiet and let everyone think you an idiot,
than to say something and convince them.

Quite a few Mark Twain quotes!

So here are a few more:

A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.

Always do right, this will satisfy some people and astonish the rest.

Be careful of reading health books, you may die of a misprint.

It is easier to stay out than get out!

I'll stop there...but suggest if you like old sayings....here is a man who created many...he really trips my trigger!

Mom would say, "Rarer than hen's teeth."

Also, when I was younger and was hungry before dinner, I'd ask, When is dinner? How soon? What are we havin'?"
She'd say, "Stew with snake hips and chicken lips. With a side of owl SKAT!"
When she said "skat," I always thought that she was tired of the questions and meant "Scat!" :laughing7:

Mom used to tell me how to deal with unpleasant or rude people; "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar."

[quote/]

My grandma, Nellie, and her sister, my Aunt Jean (her real name was Jane, but that's a long story.)used to say that and my dad would quote them. My mom would go thru the roof. Nellie and Jean were both on the cantankerous side and the old man in his younger days was real short in the temper department. I'd say the three of them should have took their own advice!
