I'm scared to really touch it! It looks really old, but any ideas?
I am not expert on this subject, but I was under impression really old stuff does not usually come up that clean, I think. Arc and some more of the experts will be along and give you good advice. no matter what, nice find.

Maybe it was something from the wreck that someone had cleaned and wore it and lost it? Haha still holding on to my hope it's from the fleet, but your right it was a really cool find. Thank you!

I used my garret ace 250 metal detector, really good hit in the 70s which for me has always been silver
I keep telling people they do not need a multi frequency detector to hunt salt water beaches . Thank you for the reply :)

Hey guys, so I was detecting an area today on the treasure coast and came across this cross. Any ideas on what this is??? It looks really old and definitely made of silver. Could this be more of a catholic medallion? Possibly from the 1715 fleet??
Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I will start with this... this piece is definitely interesting... and yes it is a Maltese Cross... which definitely "fits" the Treasure Fleet "MO".

It's clean smooth nature may be a result of it recently rolling around in the sand prior to being deposited in the location you found it.

The "bail" (ring) is correct... laying flat as opposed to modern jewelry.

The look is correct.

The motif is correct... BUT.... these have been... well sorta... reproduced... let me see if i can find a similar example.
