My buddy was kind enough to invite me out to his permission at an old colonial plantation today. Managed to dig up this 1822 capped bust. I was pretty excited about it. 33644766-1BEE-4AEC-8EE0-CB89802313A6.jpeg 2D456314-751A-4D47-939F-C664C26773CC.jpeg

At the request of NZ49er, here are some better pics. I got the dirt off but the black appears to be here to stay. Also, the website isn’t letting me logon for some reason. So I had to take a picture of a picture and upload from my phone. FC32B165-23A5-4E9A-8775-7C1A6D230A54.jpg BD5B1EE7-EFD5-4090-AFF0-0A1372DD65AB.jpeg

Ewell,

Very nice find, like Mr. Digger highlights, it is a low mintage coin. Yours looks to be in decent condition minus the black gunk. You may want to consider having it professionally cleaned. I see it valued at $250 for G-4 condition and $2K at EF-40. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Wow, major bucket lister!!! Nice job! Do you think that may be fire damage? I’ve been digging a lot of fire damaged IHP’s for some reason. Could it be the year of the burnt coin?????????

Nice! I'd inspect around that 25c real well. There is a variety that has the 25c over 50c, and it's worth a lot more money.

I’m honestly not sure what it is. I’m thinking of getting it professionally cleaned. I just hope it comes off without damage.

Im confused. Why is it harder to dig a capped bust than any other? I would think the hardness of the dirt would be the factor, not the type of quarter? DO they have little fingers that hang on and fight you the whole way? Man am I bored.
