Coincides with oral history written down in 1916 by an educated native historian.

So this was already a theory that was being taught or the author was attempting to melt native teachings with modern education that she had faith in.

Name & Tribe ? Book title ?
Check it out.

I can remember distinctly a woman I saw way down river that had tattoos on her chin. Unless you know what I’m talking about or don’t read the first page, it will mean nothing.

It was a menacing appearance. I remember it as a skull jaw but I’ve see attractive women with a different style.

Later she was wanted for a stabbing...but she was a last of her kind.

Another authentic book written at the turn of the century in the same area...

“Land of the Grasshopper Sun” great read..maybe because I can envision exactly what the conditions were like.

CORRECTION. "Land of the Grasshopper Song" great read.

FWIW, that North Central European origin scenerio is only a couple of years old -- the result of DNA analysis & discoveries made long after it was written.

I’m sure you read further where she said the other members of their “group” continued on south and kept wandering.

Each group of people deciding to stop at different locations and develop their own languages.

Very interesting. I wonder what the plant with the forked root was.

Given the number of "coincidental" cultural parallels between Europe and the Americas in "prehistory," some relative of mandrake wouldn't be an unlikely possibility -- https://books.google.com/books?id=L...drake grow in the western hemisphere?&f=false

It sounds like it was someone’s chore to care for a live plant while they traveled. The story goes it was green and bloomed while they traveled.

It would make much more sense if it was a bulb type plant that could be simply dug up and planted later. Sounds like there should be some growing in my area. Based on the book.

The part about woman being created from it..really nails it down to American mandrake.
Thanks. Now I’m going to have to keep an eye out. I seem to remember seeing something like this blooming in a meadow once while I was backpacking.
