I'll set the quick scene before getting to the point. Got out after work to a newish ball field (1960s-1970s) but had some potential. Stop me if you have had a similar situation. Start swinging, finding a few clad period to that area coins some of which are deeper than they really need to be, trash targets, modern coins close to the service...you start getting that feeling...backfilled dirt right? Deep coins are gonna be out of reach. Well that was me...but I kept swinging. Got a 14-43 - 12-40 on the Etrac at about 5 inches. I'm thinking, clad dime or maybe copper penny or lucky wheat? Right? Wrong! I pulled an absolute beat to hell 1887 Seated Dime! I'm not sure if she was dropped there or maybe the backfill from wherever it came from gave me my oldest silver to date. I don't care, she's awesome.

Back out tomorrow.

Keep swinging my friends!

Happy hunting,
-Hunter

Was it obvious or did you take it somewhere?

It was an obvious at first I don’t care how weird it look LOL. But I went and had it looked at at a coin dealer and he said on the phone it was probably real. But when I brought it to him to his surprise it was counterfeit from 1875 that was made out of something but I can’t remember the name. He liked it more than the real thing he couldn’t believe it he said.

I found it I don’t know homestead from the 1800s I found on an old map. Come to find out a old Jesuit Priest lived there. IMG_0550.JPG IMG_0554.JPG

First Congratz On your Oldest Silver Find , I'd be Happy. Even if it was brought in as fill , you finding it after all that is amazing to me.

Truth .
I like the coin dealer , think's your counterfeit is better than the real deal , actually the Real Deal would be better in that condition & complete.

See you got an F -75 , I love your ambition , I got an at-pro in Dec , & Got a G2+ last Feb, & I still have not learned the machine (the way I want) , now to learn the AT-Pro . "Head-Bang".

Was goona ask if the Band stayed there , but that would make them real old (likely sold their Souls to still be around today.
Or
Someone cheating on their Tithes. ?

No he said a real 1875 Seated dime was a dime a dozen. How it really went down was I immediately posted it in TNET in field and the a hour later I checked comments saying “ I don’t know looks weird” lol. I though someone “holed” it and it broke or something. Lol ( I was being very positive) but TNet’ers are wise so it had it checked. I also emailed it to a counterfeit specialist with pictures I thought I was aluminum and here’s what he said.

“Period counterfeits were not made from Al. This one looks like a cast example using antimony. Antimony is quite brittle and these piece easily cracked. It is a contemporary piece which means made at roughly the same time as the date on the coin."

Davers I started with the ATP then got a F75. I used the ATP because I loved it then when the Max came out sold my ATP and have been learning the Max. The newness has wore off so I’m exploring my F75 again. Must must admit I wish I had my ATP back.

“This is my Pro.....This gun....This is for swinging ......This is for fun.”

Learn it like a soldier learns his rifle it won’t let you down.

We learn as we go.

Since I started detecting i'm discovering "Worth" is a opinion / catch 22 for lack of better terms.

I just looked at the retail values of the 1875 Dime , I assumed yours if real would be in XF Details maybe 7 that's $35-45 IMO retail , so a counterfeit from that same time period would be more desirable.

Since I found my oldest Silvers all at 1 site, in 2012 ; I have been buying coins , I have collected coins all my life but in the last few years have gotten into 'Type' & semi Key date coins.

Now 35-$45 is a good chunk of money , in the real world it's not that much.
+ the effort we diggers put fourth makes it worth it in the way (We found it , & that makes it priceless). Same with $3 -$5 Minnies ( The ones I dug are Priceless ) bet you might feel the same.

Heck I don't know how I got on this Worth rant.
I gotta go to my Dr, at 11: 30 est ,oh well they can wait.:tongue3:

As for machines , I have always wanted the Best CTX 30-30 , or a GPX for those Deep relics , just not many places to use the GPX Series around here.
Was going to get a F75 ltd last Spring but chose the G2+ Most here use the F-75.

I been wanting a water / rain machine & got a great deal on the ATP.

I really miss my XLT , I used it for 10 years almost exclusively ,& Know it like a Brother.
'Along with the Whites VDI #'s ' Now I want an MX Sport assuming the Numbers are equal to other Whites machines .
Still hunting an XLT But locally , I want to see before I buy.

In Short "The Machine you know best & Have the most time on " Is your best machine. Cause I wont find spit without you/ me the Operator. :laughing7::coffee2:

Got to go I hope to hunt while i'm out but most likely will drive in circles.
