Is it 1 inch long or 10 feet long
3/4 inches wide
1. 5/8 inches long
1/16 inches thick

I was thinking that it could be a magazine bottom plate but it feels a tad bit heavy

Did ya find it on a mountain top? Scrap yard? City park? Under 10 feet of water? A little info and effort goes a long way. That being said, it looks like a snare lock.

It was found next to a river, dry land, about 8 inches down

Look up one of the trapping supply houses on line and peruse their catalog on snare parts.I agree on a snare lock or drowning lock.
