I just found this a few weeks ago, but after researching and identifying it, it's one of the coolest things I've found. This one was made by a company named Foster's and had a patent date of Apr 17 1855. I found it at an old Indian War fort site.

I thought it would be obvious that it's a pencil sharpener? That's why I included the pencil....

That,s cool,without the pencil I,d never have thought it! You find some neat things there at that Fort!
I do. I love finding the out of the ordinary, hard to identify items....except when I can't ID them.! Ha!

For me, i thought the pencil was for scale......i didnt even know they had round pencils back then...is it silver or just nickel plated? I cant tell.

I don't think it's silver. I haven't tested it though.
