Got out today to a farm field that's yielded older stuff in the past. Only one coin today and it looks like it's pre U.S. but I'm not sure. Can anyone help identify it? It's slightly larger than a quarter, and the reverse is toast. I can see "REX" in the bottom right of the obverse, and part of a word that looks like it's "GRA...." to the top right of the head. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Date span?

HH All!

testing123, I believe what you have there is a Rosa Americana coin Circa 1722 - 1730 issued in half penny , penny , and twopence.
These portray King George I , and were not popular with the American colonists . Argentium. (Redbook of U.S. coins references)
Looks like you've found the penny denomination .

I agree with Argentium. I dug a 1723 Halfpenny this spring. Great save!

thought I had a redbook floating around...tracked it down.

Looks like it's a 1722 - 1724 Hibernia Halfpenny? I think I can see the harp lines on the back of this coin.

Thanks guys!! She's an oldie

Very nice find! Congrats. Hope you can restore it a bit.

Hey buddy :hello:
Nice find!!! The unique harp and wide spread of Brittanias arm are the
clues I used to ID my Woods issues.
btw, I thought they were GIIs till I was enlightened :laughing7:
HH to you !! Herbie.

Definitely a Wood's Hibernia. Found 1 in my front lawn (!) earlier this year. Great find!
