PETRIFIED LIZARD

Ok, you guys are going to think I’m nuts (the last forum did). I have been prepping this for a month now and I am 100% convinced that it is a petrified lizard of some kind. It has a crown on his head and a sail on his back. I have sent pics to a group of paleontologists and am waiting for the reply. Will post it when it comes. I’m still working on it and will show my progress. By the way, it’s another decorative rock from my driveway here in Washington. It’s 4” long x 2” wide. I’m sane, I swear!

This is a petrified lizard. That's just a rock, and not even of a type in which one would expect a fossil to be found, never mind a fully-preserved 3D specimen complete with soft tissue.

I don’t know nothin’ about no fossils. All I know is that I have been working on this rock with a diamond bit on my Dremel and a toothbrush and the material that is left behind looks like a dried out lizard to me. I’m going to keep working on it as long as these are the results. I came here hoping for some cleaning tips but got “It’s a rock”. Now I only want to post my progress.
I looked over the pictures I posted and don’t see much progress lol. I guess it just seems like a lot to me.

You said the previous forum thought you "were nuts". Members are not thinking your nuts, but you admitted "I’ll be the first one to admit that I know very little about fossils" and "I welcome all of your comments whether you think I’m nuts or not"

You have multiple locations in your area you can take the rock and have someone look at it. You can take your rock to Fossil Park in Fossil, Oregon or Pacific Museum of Earth in Vancouver and ask them to look at it. Both are fairly close to you.

It's cool you are so passionate about it and i guess there's no harm in it. But no doubt carving out what you think is a lizard will look like a lizard, especially when your mind guides the carving out process.

Hey, I remember a time when I also would have sworn that I was sane. Now I know “sane” is a relative term. Thinking you see something in a rock doesn’t mean you’re nuts. It means you are inquisitive and open to possibilities. Discoveries are rarely made by people who are closed-minded. Keep looking. 👍🏼
